Is there really even a difference between this and the Vista sidebar?

The most difference is the change in graphical setup. In Windows 7 the sidebar is transparent and gadgets are placed everywhere on the desktop also their are lots of subtle changes in the rest of the graphics.

Most of the changes are also in the source code and this cannot be seen directly.

I can Imagen you like the Vista Sidebar more. That's why we offered a choice and still will update Thoosje Vista Sidebar.

To be honest I don't even use my sidebar anymore. Became more of a novelty besides just the clock, and I downloaded rain meter and the clock that's with one of my skins is sweet. And it links up with my winamp. And it doesn't match my new theme well.

Still a good program and all, doesn't fit my current computer setup right now.

I would be interested to know, what is the difference between this seven bar, and your sidebar 3.1 ?

is there some sort of table, that list their functions?
