It seems like the sidebar isn't compatible with sp3. well, for me it worked fine, but actually most problems are with SP3.
So, you can try running it under sp3, but the chance, that it won't run smooth is high.
That's it. ;-)

Okay, so you may be wondering how to fix this problem... uninstalling sp3 COULD fix it...so decide: SP3 or thoosje sidebar?

if you decide for thoosje sidebar, here's a way to
UNINSTALL SP3
1.Go to start menu
2.Start the "system control panel"
3.There, go to "software"
4. Check the checkbox "show updates"
5. Look for the SP3
6. Mark the SP3 And hit it's "uninstall"-button
7.When it's uninstalled, you'll be asked to reboot. Do it!
8.Now, Thoosje sidebar should run.
Good Luck

Hi there, I've spent about 3 hours now installing various versions of the side bar an applying the patches as described on the forum, but none of them works properly.. I think it's the SP3 problem over here also.
Is there any indication on when this problem might be fixed?
At least with the 2.3 version the gadgets work and look great, but as described by various people on the forum the bar resets to blank after restarting.
Hope you'll come with a solution soon because (if it works) it seems to be a pretty nice piece of software..

I'm running XP-SP3 with no problems whatso-ever using the sidebar.
A Note: it is not a name-brand box. (Not HP, Sony, etc...) running "Genuine" licensed Windows XP-Pro.

I would suggest that before installing the sidebar, that anyone running Norton or McAffee- disable them completely, and reboot without them running at all, THEN do the install. (These 2 products cannot be completely disabled with a "right click" in the systray. You have to go to the control panel, Administrative Tools, Services, Stop and disable the services from restarting, reboot, do the install, test it, then go back to the Services and re-enable /re-start the disabled services and reboot, and see if the sidebar comes up.)
Since I don't use either of these products I can't give more specifics on disabling them other than "disable anything thats "Symantec and Norton" / or "Mc<anything>", and this IS only a suggestion for those who are experiencing problems with the install. (I'm hazarding a guess that those with these problems are using Symantec, McAfee, Panda, CA or some other form of A/V with Firewall software installed onto their Machines. And have seen these products interfere with the installation of many other programs of all types.)

I would like to know if this helps solve some issues.

Bollox! SP3 rox, Windows runs a bit faster with SP3, including the boot (which has always been a problem for XP). And I had no issue at all with SP3 and any software (and I use a shit load of them). Sidebar works charmly to me on SP3. The only issue i had was with the slideshow path, which was not set and was causing error message every time I started sidebar. After i figured that out, it's on now. It's all perfectly smooth.

Peace!
