How to Install
Go to the Windows Control Panel\Programs

Uninstall the previous Thoosje Sidebars

Unpack the downloaded Thoosje_Sidebar_3_0_by_Thoosje.zip

Run the .exe and viola

Problem
Most of the Thoosje Sidebar users in the world must have noticed that the Weather Gadget never stops asking for a zip code now and because of that the Sidebar cannot be used anymore, I am working right now for a quick solution so in about a view hours a new sidebar build will be up without a Weather Gadget.

The error is because the website weather.com changed some ways for users to get data from its weather XML, and now the Weather Gadget is looping a error message because it cannot read the required XML it needs to, there will be a new weather gadget in a couple of days.

Quick Solutions
Start the sidebar without internet plugged in when the sidebar is fully started plug the internet back in, so the Gadget cannot ask nor receive false data.

My guess is that after every power up ... either a cold boot or recovering from hibernation, I'd have to crawl around on the floor, find my network cable, unplug it, start the application, and then plug the cable back in. So I'll do without for a while. :cry:

Do you have an estimated time to repair this?

Parallel question: I downloaded the latest version, and see that there are two main executables in the program folder:

(a) Thoosje Sidebar.ext 592KB 8/18/2008
(b) Thoosje Vista Sidebar.exe 592KB 7/7/2009

The Add/Remove programs feature (via the XP/Pro control panel) only shows Thoosje Vista Sidebar .... so,
is it OK to manually delete the old version?

I'll check back in a couple of weeks to see if you have a fix for the weather error.

Yeah it should be fine to remove the old version and to all the sidebar users i send my appologies as its not a fault of ours but the weather provider

i really like that version :)

the new 3.0 version is eating a lot of CPU if u compare it with 2.3 and 2.5 version

I'm French. I use Thoosje Vista Sidebar one years ago. But, the program doesn't start... :no:

It would belong of to http://www.weather.com. But when I install Deviant Art's version, the 3.0, the program does not start either... "The program doesn't execute..." Then he suggests me sending the report of error or not... Classic Window of Windows XP Service Pack 2. What I can make ? Is there a manipulation to be made?

sorry .. I don't know what to do to help you
for now I just untick "run on windows start up" and don't use it anymore untill Thoosje fix the problem
but If you've other problems .. you could ask me (by pm) in french ..

Fix works for me. :first:

I startd to panic because my 3 PC's all started throwing up error :shock:

Tried version 3.1 but error still there and using excesive CPU so reverted back to version 2.5 (made Acronis image prior to un-installing 2.5 and also did a reg search to remove all references to Thoosje after using the official removal proceedure and before installing ver 3.1)

Why don't you go to network properties and select to put icon on taskbar after which all you would have to do is right click it and select disconnect before shut-down and then after sidebar started at boot\restart just right click once again and select connect.
Save you getting holes in the knees of your trousers. :roll:

That is the error back again after running the sidebar for a while (since just before this was first posted) :cry:

Have you removed the weather widget? I updated my toolbar after I got this error and now for some reason the weather widget is not installed and I can't get it too install. Any help?

Yes the weather gadget has been removed from the sidebar until a proper fix for it can be created

bummer on the weather gadget being removed that i would assume is one of the more popular gadget choices, as it is my favorite gadget. is there an E.T.A. on the gadget being reinstalled and fully functional again? also is there anything i can do to help?

Hi, just thought I'd confirm that I was able to download the 'fixed' version by following the link at the top of this thread and after uninstalling the old version, the fixed version installed just fine.

Toolbar now up and running again without that annoying Zip Code message - thanks Thoosje for a quick fix!

it is because even if you don't use the weather gadget it still loads up when you start the sidebar. Just download the new version of the sidebar and the problem will be fine.
