the mac id is saved in the router's logs. Well. It just goes like this: You download via torrent -> one of the tousands DL-Lawyers sends the owner of the wlan a nice little letter telling him to pay like 500€ -> the wlan owner of course doesn't pay, get's himself a lawyer and goes to the polic... |

well any illegal actions are against law (because they are illegal) open wlan or not. if they catch you and are able to proof you're guilty is a completely different thing. |
