Microsoft warning of IE Bug, turns PC into public file server

Microsoft has issued Security Advisory (980088) to address a publicly disclosed vulnerability in Internet Explorer that may allow information disclosure for Windows XP users or for users who have disabled Internet Explorer Protected Mode. The advisory explains that content can be forced to render incorrectly from local files in such a way that information can be exposed to malicious websites.

Is Microsoft looking to close the gaps between major OS updates? A posting on an MSDN blog may shed some serious light on Microsoft’s upcoming release schedule.

According to Chris Green, a developer who recently finished working for Microsoft, Windows 8 mainstream support is targeted for 07/01/2011 which is the first date that we have seen regarding the release of Microsoft’s next OS.

Jobs was discussing all things Apple flavoured at a company town hall meeting at One Infinite Loop in Cupertino.

Reports by Macrumors and Wired quote Jobs as saying that Google's "Don't be evil" mantra is "bullshit".

It appears Google and Apple's relationship has gotten rocky, with Google recently circumventing Apple's Iphone App Store by providing Google Voice via Safari's HTML5 support.

Not content with blasting Google, Saint Jobs also lambasted Adobe for being "lazy", said that Apple doesn't support Flash because "it's so buggy" and alleged that the bulk of Mac crashes come from Flash.

Windows 7 powers Microsoft to record profit

Technology giant Microsoft has reported record profits on the back of strong sales of the Windows 7 operating system.

Microsoft's second-quarter net profit rose by 60 percent to a record $6.66 billion while underlying revenue rose to $19.02 billion, the company said in an earnings statement released overnight.

"Exceptional demand for Windows 7 led to the positive top-line growth for the company," said Peter Klein, chief financial officer at Microsoft. "Our continuing commitment to managing costs allowed us to drive earnings performance ahead of the revenue growth."

The unveiling of Apple's iPad tablet computer was one of the most anticipated technology events in recent years, but a similar looking device has been on sale in China for nearly six months.

The touchscreen iPad look-alike marks a new milestone by Chinese manufacturers: cloning a product before it had even been announced, mused Shanghaiist.com, a Shanghai city blog, and Shanzhai.com, a tech blog dedicated to Chinese copies.

But Shenzhen Great Loong Brother Industrial Co. -- makers of the Chinese device, which resembles an over-sized iPhone -- said Apple appeared to be the copycats.
